Choosing the right school to enroll your child in can be difficult, especially if you have many options at your disposal.
While reputation and location are important considerations, you shouldn’t neglect other factors that can influence your child’s education and future success. Here are the top 10 schools in Ghana for 2022!
Number 1: Accra Academy
Located right at Osu, Accra Academy is arguably one of Ghana’s best-known secondary schools. Known for its rigorous curriculum and competitive exams, it has been a boarding school since its inception.
It offers a diverse range of courses including Visual Arts, Dance, Music, and Literature. With so much to do on campus, it would be hard to get bored as an Accra Academy student!
Number 2: New Edubiase Senior High School
Many people will argue that New Edubiase is part of Akyem Abuakwa, but for sake of time and convenience, I have included it on my list. New Edubiase Senior High School was established in 1957 by Ghana’s first President Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
In 1998, work began on a new school site to accommodate its growing population; students now benefit from state-of-the-art facilities, including a Science Laboratory, Computer Laboratory, and an impressive 1,000 seat capacity auditorium which opened its doors in October 2002.
Number 3: Opoku Ware School
The school, founded by James Emman Kwegyir Aggrey, Opoku Ware School, is a co-educational day and boarding school located in Kumasi. The institution educates students from grade one to grade seven as well as students between grades eight and ten through its Junior Secondary School program. The institution was previously called Aggrey Memorial College but has since been changed due to consistent mispronunciation of its former name.
For admission into any level of schooling at Opoku Ware Sch, prospective students are required to complete an application form which can be done at their website or through approved schools. Admissions to all levels are made on a first come first serve basis subject to the availability of seats available for enrollment.
Number 4: Koforidua Secondary Technical School
Koforidua Secondary Technical School (KSTS) is a public senior high sch located at Dzorwulu, Koforidua in the Eastern Region, of Ghana. The school was established as an all-boys school on 30 September 1963 by government decree.
The first batch of students (Form 1 & 2) was admitted to study technical and vocational education in January 1964. Mr. Anane Ikpo Samuel was appointed as headmaster of KSTS with seven (7) teachers and four (4) non-teaching staff.
Number 5: Mfantsipim School
Mfantsipim School is a boarding school based in Cape Coast, Ghana. It is one of Africa’s leading boarding schools and one of four secondary schools founded by William Amoah Crowther, a former slave from Virginia who became an Anglican priest.
The school was established on 1 January 1892 as part of Bishop Crowther Memorial School, with funds given by Swedish politician Axel Törnflycht-Löwenthal. In 1912, it added a middle department with pupils over 13 years old while older students attended Mfantsipim Senior Secondary School in Cape Coast, which was established that year by J. Ewart Odamtten Easmon (later Sir John Easmon) as East Africa’s first university college.
Number 6: Prempeh College
Accra and Ghana Prempeh College is a co-educational institution for the upper-middle class and wealthy students. The school is located in Accra, which makes it one of the best private schools in Ghana. As with all top schools in Ghana, expectations are very high at Prempeh College; students attend lessons as early as 5 am and continue until late afternoon.
Despite its rigorous curriculum, Prempeh College boasts a 100% pass rate and features an experienced faculty. The school’s strengths include arts education, sports education, and IT education.
Number 7: Kumasi Academy
Founded by Mr. Ernest Thomas Quansah, KAA is one of Kumasi’s leading boys’ schools. Students at KAA enjoy both a classical and modern curriculum, with a special focus on business studies, engineering, and agriculture.
With a student population of more than 800, some 60% of whom are boarders, they have their rowing club (with access to Lake Amalfi), swimming pool, and cricket pitch – meaning that extracurricular activities are plentiful. was established as a boys’ boarding middle and high school with an initial enrollment of 120 students in 1953. The school is managed by The Synod of Livingstonia through an official sub-committee.

Number 9: St. Louis Senior High School Gomoa West District Of Ghana(G)
In terms of school facilities, health services, and extracurricular activities, St. Louis Senior High School has it all. One thing that sets it apart from other schools is its vocational education department. When you think about it, very few secondary schools have vocational education programs for their students.
This school was founded in 1990 with only one hundred students to register but today; it has more than two thousand students and employs about sixty teachers. It is a residential school that is located beside the Owura Kwabena Opoku Ware II University of Education, Winneba Campus. Here, students are exposed to some interesting lessons related to their interests and hobbies.
