Cristiano Ronaldo scores twice, Champions League result

Despite their recent success in the competition, Atletico Madrid are not often talked about as one of the favourites to win the Champions League. Cristiano Ronaldo has so often been the difference against Atleti, but in Madrid it was two Uruguayan centre halves who not only dealt with the five time Champions League winner, but also provided scoring touches of their own. The 2-0 victory at the Wanda Metropolitano could be a sign that Champions League glory may finally cease to elude Simeone’s side.

That will only serve to further frustrate Juventus. They too have lost two finals in the last five years, and the signing of Ronaldo was supposed to be the addition to push them over the line. After the 2-0 loss in Madrid, Juve are staring elimination in the white of its eyes.

Their top scorer produced a match winning performance in Turin last season, but Allegri’s side don’t necessarily need to rely on Ronaldo to perform a miracle. Paulo Dybala, Miralem Pjanic and Mario Mandzukic are all capable of making the difference in one way or another.
